Why is Indonesia blocking sales of Apple’s new iPhone?
Indonesian regulators last week rejected a proposal from Apple that the tech giant had hoped would pave the way for sales of the iPhone 16 in one of Southeast Asia’s largest markets. Indonesia requires 40% of parts used in certain smartphones to be produced domestically. To comply, Apple had pitched a $1 billion investment in a manufacturing facility on Indonesia’s Batam island to produce parts for the AirTag tracking device. - Chris Pincher was suspended as a Tory MP last week after being accused of groping two men at a private members club while drunk
- The incident – and many subsequent allegations – have put pressure on Johnson to explain what he knew about Pincher’s past when he appointed him
- Lord McDonald, the former top civil servant in the Foreign Office, has accused No 10 of not telling the truth
- Labour’s deputy leader Angela Rayner says “this constant charade just will not wash”
- Cabinet Office Minister Michael Ellis said PM “did not immediately recall” hearing about a 2019 complaint about Pincher’s behaviour when fresh allegations arose about him last week.
- When the PM was reminded of this, the No 10 press office corrected the information it was providing to the media, says Ellis.
