King Charles was once shut down by Margaret Thatcher after he questioned her policies, Omid Scobie reveals in Endgame.
In his latest self-proclaimed “investigation” into the current state of the British monarchy Mr Scobie publishes an extract from Sally Bedell Smith’s biography Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life.
In the book, the author recounts a very particular incident in 1985 between the then Prince of Wales and ex-prime minister Margaret Thatcher.
Scobie writes: “At the height of her austere measures in 1985, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher sternly reminded the prince she was in charge after he complained that because of her Tory policies, he would ‘inherit the throne of a divided Britain’ (like Prince William today, Charles was conjuring up his reign long before it was even close to his turn).
“The Iron Lady’s riposte? ‘I run this country, not you, sir.'”

Mrs Thatcher was Britain and Europe’s first female prime minister and served three consecutive terms in office from 1979 until 1990.
Dubbed the “Iron Lady”, she was known for her controversial conservative economic policies, which later became known as Thatcherism.
Mr Scobie’s bombshell book Endgame was released in the UK on Tuesday but many critics blasted it, saying it brings nothing new to the table.
It made several headlines with its explosive claims about the Royal Family, including how there was not one but two royals involved in discussions over Prince Archie’s skin colour.

The book has so far received several scathing reviews with one newspaper branding it “laughably partial, devoid of insight and bizarrely misogynistic”.
Another called Scobie a “tad hyperbolic” and said Endgame “reads like a press release cooked up by ChatGPT”.
