The most emotional end to a win I’ve ever experienced said Lewis Hamilton as he was interviewed By Sky Sports at Silverstone.

Lewis Hamilton did it, what a relief, it seems like an eternity but the 7 time world champion finally managed to get the Mercedes F1 car together and over the line.

Lewis Hamilton has waited 945 days for this, his 104th Formula 1 career victory.

As he got out of the race car Lewis Hamilton headed over to his father, Anthony, and hugged him for what felt like an eternity, summing up a truly emotional day.

Lewis managed his pace to the chequered flag at Silverstone

It was the most emotional end to a win as Lewis Hamilton wins the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. This was one of the best drives of Hamilton’s career in a inferior car, he had to manage the car, and everything had to be perfect.

Especially the soft tyres which are notorious for suffering from high degradation at Silverstone.

Lewis had to hold off a surging Verstappen in the last few laps. Although the seven-time world champion held a three-second advantage over the Red Bull of Max Verstappen at the end, Max was closing in, shaving a second off Lewis on each the last 6 laps.

At one point you may have imagined the worst, but Lewis held on and in hindsight Lewis managed his pace to the chequered flag, we did say it was emotional.

It was the most emotional end to a win

“My heart is racing, I’ve had so many amazing times here in the past but when I came across that line something really released in me that I guess I’ve been holding onto for a very long time.

It was the most emotional end to a win I’ve ever experienced, I never cry, but it hit me hard, after such a difficult 2021, just trying to continue to come back.”

Lewis Hamilton spoke to Sky Sports, saying

What this means for the F1 Championship?

This is the 9th British Grand Prix victory for Sir Lewis Hamilton. Silverstone has always been an emotional place for him, starting with his battles with Fernando Alonso and then with Vettel and more recently Max Verstappen, who finished second.

    For the Constructors?

McLaren are now within 10 points of Ferrari after the Italian team dropped more points this weekend at Silverstone.

Red Bull are 71 points ahead in the constructors’ championship and Haas have added more points to their tally thanks to a sixth-placed finish for Nico Hulkenberg.

    For the F1 drivers

Max Verstappen is 84 points clear of second-place Lando Norris in the drivers’ championship, while his Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez has now been overtaken by Oscar Piastri for fifth spot.

Lewis Hamilton is one point behind retiree George Russell following his Silverstone triumph and over at Ferrari, Carlos Sainz is only four points off his team-mate Charles Leclerc in the hunt for third.
