    The Great Pottery Throw Down crowns winner in emotional final episode

    The Great Pottery Throw Down announced its winner during Sunday night’s episode and for one Ramsgate native, it was a night to remember. 

    Lois Gunn is a jeweller and ceramicist from Kent and was named winner of the Channel 4 competition show. 

    The 36-year-old took home the prize during the fixture hosted by Derry Girls star Siobhán McSweeney. 

    In an emotional final few minutes, the judges built suspense as they geared up to reveal Lois as the winner. 

    Siobhan revealed: ‘The winner of The Great Pottery Showdown is Lois’. 

    The news was met with an eruption of applause and tears from the victor and her family as she questioned: ‘Did you just say my name?

    ‘I think I’m in a lot of shock. This whole thing is beautiful, to be part of it and then to be holding this at the end.

    ‘I think the future looks pretty exciting. I’m definitely going to have more confidence in new things that I try and I’m just really looking forward to sharing loads of pottery chat with a lot of people’. 

    Potters were given a heartfelt farewell towards the closing of the 2023 season as judge Keith Brymer Jones struggled to hold back tears.

    He said: ‘All our potters this year have just been absolutely wonderful. 

    ‘The hard work, the dedication, the creativity, the hard work that has happened in that room up there has just been absolutely incredible’. 

    Fans online were elated at the result and praised the show for its wholesome atmosphere.

    One wrote: ‘Always sad to see the end of #PotteryThrowdown – it’s a bright, beautifully glazed shard of loveliness gleaming amidst the greasy slip of everyday life. Well done to the worthy winner, and roll on next series! [sic]’.

    Another penned: ‘The #PotteryThrowdown is all that’s good about human nature in one great big hug – creativity, collaboration, comradeship, celebration, courage, vulnerability,  love. Thank you to all involved. Xxx [sic]’. 

    ‘Congratulations, Loïs! Your creativity has been a joy to watch and we love how you put a piece of yourself in everything you make,’ the show’s own account wrote of the winner.
