The Independent – The final poll: Tories brace for total wipeout

    July 3, 2024

An exclusive poll for The Independent shows Labour is heading for a landslide victory on 40% – almost double the Tories at 21% as Sunak ramps up efforts to win back unhappy Tory voters in a bid to stop Starmer from having a 200-seat majority.

Sunak poll bump ‘too little, too late’ as Tories face ‘devastating’ wipeout

Rishi Sunak is on the verge of leading the Conservative Party to the worst defeat in its 346-year history, according to a new poll for The Independent.

The Techne UK survey of 5,503 voters has given Labour a 19-point lead at 40 per cent – almost twice the Tories’ 21 per cent – with just one day of campaigning left to go.

While the Conservatives have gained two points from late last week, and Labour dropped one with Reform UK also losing a point to 16 per cent, the narrowing of the polls appears to be too little, too late for Mr Sunak after a disastrous campaign.

British Nurse Lucy Letby, already convicted of killing 7 babies, found guilty in attempted killing

A British neonatal nurse who is serving a life sentence for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others was convicted Tuesday of trying to kill another infant in her care.

Lucy Letby, 34, tried to kill a baby girl known as Child K in February 2016 at the Countess of Chester Hospital in northwestern England, a jury decided after a previous panel failed to reach a verdict on that count.

Letby, who testified that she never harmed a child, was found guilty in Manchester Crown Court last August of most of the crimes she was charged with that took place between June 2015 and June 2016 at the hospital’s neonatal unit.

Andy Murray withdraws from Wimbledon singles following back operation

Andy Murray has pulled out of the singles at Wimbledon ahead of his first-round match against Tomas Machac, but the 37-year-old will make a farewell appearance at the Championships alongside his older brother Jamie in the doubles.

Murray underwent an operation on his back last weekend but was determined to give himself every opportunity to appear at the tournament he won twice and delayed his decision until Tuesday morning to fully assess his condition.

“Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his operation just over a week ago, Andy has taken the very difficult decision not to play the singles this year,” a statement from Murray’s team read.

‘Boris Johnson surprise appearance as he backs Rishi’ - Paper Talk

    Editorial 03 July 2024.

Just one day until the election, the front pages continue to be dominated by domestic politics.

Wednesday’s newspapers report on the late intervention in the election campaign by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The right-leaning newspapers that traditionally back the Conservative Party have welcomed the intervention of Boris Johnson – believing he can help stop the Tories from being completely wiped out.

The left-leaning newspapers are fully behind Labour’s final push, reporting that the 14 years of economic austerity and Tory failures are almost over.

Away from the election, there’s room on the front pages for pictures of Andy Murray after news came he had pulled out of his last-ever Wimbledon Singles. The back pages continue their Wimbledon coverage, and there’s room to report on the latest from the Euros.
