Ten people killed in wedding bus crash in Australia
A tragic accident in Australia’s Hunter Valley, a renowned wine region, has claimed the lives of at least 10 people and left 25 others hospitalised.
The passengers were returning from a wedding held at a winery on Sunday night when the bus they were travelling in overturned. The driver of the bus, 58, has been charged with 10 counts of dangerous driving leading to death.
Authorities are in the process of identifying the deceased and the crash site remains an active crime scene, with forensics officers, crash investigation unit officers, and rescue personnel present. It has been reported that the newly-wedded couple were not onboard the bus when it crashed.
Police say the accident took place around 23:30 local time due to heavy fog in the area. The bus overturned while making a turn at a roundabout off a highway. Its believed that the bus was taking the guests to accommodation in Singleton. Two survivors were airlifted from the scene, with local media reporting that at least one of them remains in critical condition.
