The front page of The Guardian this morning, 16 April 2025, reports that the British political party Reform UK has been deemed “racist and far right” by the largest education union in the country. Reform leader Nigel Farage reacted with anger and said his party would “go to war” with the teaching unions if it won the next general election.
Largest teaching union describes Reform UK as far right and racist

- The largest education union in the country, the National Education Union (NEU), has called Reform UK a “racist and far-right” political party. Reform – led by Nigel Farage – has been neck and neck with Labour and ahead of the Tories in some recent polls and will contest nearly all the 1,600 council seats up for re-election on 1 May.
- Ministers have announced an overhaul of the way carer’s allowance overpayments are checked in an attempt to fix the failing system which has left thousands with life-changing debts, fines and criminal records.
- On a warm spring day relatives gathered to say goodbye to Viktor Boiko and his wife, Olha. Their open coffins were laid out next to one other. Viktor wore his best suit. Olha was in a flowery blouse, with carnations heaped around her slippered feet. A priest sang prayers. Gravediggers lowered the couple into the ground, and shovelled earth on top. It landed with a percussive thud.
