Grammys 2024: Taylor Swift makes history with best album award

Taylor Swift stole the spotlight at this year’s Grammy Awards, achieving a historic feat as the first performer to clinch the Album of the Year award four times. Previously, Swift had shared the record of three wins with Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, and Frank Sinatra. The acclaimed artist was presented with the award by Celine Dion, who made an unexpected appearance amid health concerns.

Swift also used the occasion to surprise fans with the announcement of a new album.

Alongside Swift’s triumph, Miley Cyrus and Billie Eilish secured other top honours at Sunday’s ceremony.

The Los Angeles event showcased a notable dominance of women, with R&B stars SZA and Victoria Monét, along with the all-female indie supergroup Boygenius, receiving multiple awards. The evening also featured rare and poignant performances by music icons Tracy Chapman and Joni Mitchell.

    The top Grammy Awards

    • Album of the year – Taylor Swift, Midnights
    • Record of the year – Miley Cyrus, Flowers
    • Song of the year – Billie Eilish, What Was I Made For?
    • Best new artist – Victoria Monét
