Taliban fight on after rejecting Afghanistan power-sharing deal
The Times says the Taliban rejected a power-sharing deal from the Afghan government as they advanced to within 90 miles of Kabul, saying they would accept peace only in exchange for a new Islamic emirate.
Afghan and Taliban officials confirmed that the embattled government of President Ghani had made an offer to share power with the Islamist group if the militants agreed to a permanent ceasefire.
The US embassy in Kabul has instructed its citizens to leave Afghanistan as soon as possible. The notice came after similar advice from Germany and Britain.
