Liverpool are ‘increasingly confident’ of signing Mason Mount from Chelsea.
Talks for the England international to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge has been at a standstill since the World Cup with Mount’s current contract set to expire in the summer of 2024.
Recent reports have claimed Chelsea do not want to enter a scenario where their academy product leaves on a free transfer next year and would rather cash in while they can this summer if a new deal cannot be agreed.
Both Manchester City and Manchester United are interested in signing the 24-year-old but talkSPORT report Liverpool are leading the race.
Liverpool’s midfield is in need of major work with the report claiming Jurgen Klopp sees Mount as an ideal addition.
It adds sources close to Mount have suggested a move to Merseyside is ‘highly likely’.
Mount is thought to be seeking a new contract at Chelsea that gives him parity with the club’s top earners.

He is currently on a deal worth around £80,000-per-week with Chelsea said to be offering siognicantly less than what they are paying the likes of Raheem Sterling, who joined the club from Manchester City last summer.
Negotiations are expected to resume with Blues boss Graham Potter hopeful the club can resolve his future soon.
‘I think it’s always complicated, there is always negotiation,’ Potter said in February.
‘It’s best I leave it between Mason and the club, that is the best way for that to be dealt with as far as I’m concerned. He’s been fantastic to work with, an important player for us, and of course, I hope it gets resolved quickly.’
Chelsea have a number of players who are approaching the final 12 months of their respective contracts at Stamford Bridge.
Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Cesar Azpilicueta and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are among those whose deals expire in 2024 along with midfielders Mount and Mateo Kovacic, with Manchester City interested in signing the Croatia international.
