The Kremlin has announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin has replaced his long-time ally Sergei Shoigu as defence minister. Shoigu, who has held the position since 2012, will now serve as secretary of Russia’s Security Council.

If the decision is given the green light by EU finance ministers next Tuesday, the interest generated – up to €3 billion (£2.5 billion) annually – will be directed towards purchasing weapons for Ukraine.

According to Ukraine’s air force, 31 missiles launched by Russia were intercepted over Kyiv overnight. The attack resulted in at least 17 injuries, including one child, with four individuals currently hospitalised due to falling debris, as reported by authorities.
