Sydney stabbing: Baby hurt in attack out of hospital
A nine-month-old baby girl, injured in the Australian stabbing attack in a Sydney mall, has been released from hospital. She will continue to receive care from doctors, a health official said.
Her mother Ashlee Good died in the attack as she desperately tried to protect her daughter in the rampage.
The baby had undergone surgery at Sydney Children’s Hospital after suffering chest and arm injuries.
Joel Cauchi, 40, attacked people in a busy shopping centre on 13 April, killing six – five women and one man. He was shot dead by police at Westfield Bondi Junction shopping mall.
Police say it’s clear he purposefully targeted women. The only man to die in the attack was a man who tried to intervene.
Mass killings are rare in Australia, and the attack horrified the nation.
Hours after news of the baby’s hospital discharge, thousands of people gathered on Bondi Beach in Sydney to honour those who died in a vigil.
