UK foreign secretary supports Brits if they want to fight in Ukraine

UK foreign secretary Liz Truss supports Brits if they want to fight in Ukraine. A change in previous policies for the British citizens who wanted to fight in the War in Syria.

She told the BBC it was up to people to make their own decisions, but argued it was a battle “for democracy”.

She said Ukrainians were fighting for freedom, “not just for Ukraine but for the whole of Europe”.

The UK government has stressed that British troops will not be sent to fight on the ground. Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said Ukraine would instead be supported to “fight every street with every piece of equipment we can get to them”.

Shamima Begum insists she ‘didn’t hate Britain’ when she fled to Syria

A unique moment in British history

A unique moment in British history, where the British government has not sent troops to ‘defend the democracy of Ukraine’ but the foreign secretary is encouraging Brits to pick up arms and fight the Russians.

This comes after President Zelensky has asked for foreign people to join the fight against Russia.

Earlier on Sunday, he said Ukraine was setting up an “international” legion of volunteers for foreigners wishing to join the Ukrainian army in its fight against Russian forces.

“This is not just Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, this is the beginning of a war against Europe. Against European unity,” Mr Zelensky was quoted as saying on his official website.

Following the statements by Liz truss that she supports Brits if they want to fight in Ukraine, a trending social media group has started collecting volunteers. You can find the link on WTX News on Twitter by DM.

400,000 Ukrainians have fled the country

Almost 400,000 people have fled Ukraine since the invasion started, the UN says. Germany will now meet the NATO defence spending target, which is 2% of national GDP.

More than 200 civilians were reported dead in the war in Ukraine, a defence official said, as heavy fighting was reported in the country’s second-largest city Kharkiv.

The Ukrainian president has rejected negotiations with Russia in Belarus – saying the country has been used for attacks

Ukrainian troops are in control of Kharkiv, the governor says, after the Russian attack.
