Supersonic – McLaren announce partnership with SEGA and its famous mascot

McLaren Racing has unveiled an exciting new partnership with SEGA, bringing the iconic character Sonic the Hedgehog into the fold. As part of this innovative collaboration, McLaren aims to enhance its global presence and engage younger audiences by integrating Sonic into its various marketing initiatives, with the partnership officially kicking off at a special event in Trafalgar Square ahead of the British Grand Prix.

    ## Supersonic Partnership: McLaren Teams Up with SEGA

This new multi-year agreement not only introduces Sonic as part of the “Papaya Army” but also designates SEGA as McLaren’s official gaming partner. Louise McEwen, Chief Marketing Officer at McLaren, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration: “We’re thrilled to welcome Sonic the Hedgehog to the McLaren Racing family. This partnership brings together two iconic names in speed and opens up our team to a wider, younger global audience.”

    ### A Legacy of Speed and Gaming

Sonic the Hedgehog, who burst onto the gaming scene in 1991, has a storied association with McLaren. The partnership recalls a memorable moment in history when Ayrton Senna lifted a trophy featuring the blue hedgehog after his win at the 1993 European Grand Prix, an event now fondly remembered as the SEGA European Grand Prix. This victory at Donington Park, where Senna famously passed four cars on the opening lap, further solidifies the connection between these two symbols of speed.

    ### Shared Values and Future Activations

“This collaboration underscores our shared passion for high-speed action and racing,” said Marcella Churchill, Vice President of SEGA/ATLUS brand marketing. “Racing is in the DNA of both the Sonic and McLaren brands. By combining Sonic’s iconic appeal with McLaren, we’re creating a partnership that should excite fans everywhere.” Fans can look forward to unique integrations and experiences, beginning with the SEGA activation at McLaren Racing Live: London.

    ### Fans, Get Ready to Experience the Thrill

With both brands boasting storied histories and passionate fan bases, the collaboration promises to offer thrilling experiences that celebrate their shared values. McLaren and SEGA are set to unveil additional activations, giving fans an engaging look into this exciting partnership. As McLaren positions itself at the intersection of motorsport and gaming, the synergy with Sonic the Hedgehog presents an electrifying blend of innovation, speed, and nostalgia for fans of all ages.
