Sunday People – William and Harry: Vigil of love
This week’s Sunday Papers are heavily dominated by royal news.
Princes William and Harry were “united” as they honoured the Queen with a vigil in Westminster Hall, the Sunday People says.
The paper focuses on William and Harry’s role in what it calls the “vigil of love”.
‘Queen’s death threw feuding William and Harry together – sowing seeds of reconciliation’
Sunday People says The images of this past week will be seared in our national psyche.
Rich in colour, solemn in tone, suffused with emotion: the first glimpse of our late Queen’s coffin, the tears of her children and grandchildren, the bowed heads of soldiers, the warmth of the cheers for the new King.
We are living through a period of history in which a well established and familiar era has suddenly ended. Yet the transition to the new one is ordered and smooth.
Rituals can be a source of solace in times of grief. Age-old ceremonies can offer a comforting pattern when life as we know it has been ruptured.
And that is perhaps part of the reason why hundreds of thousands of people have endured hours of waiting to witness the pageantry and processions that have marked the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

‘The Queen brought us all together and now nothing will ever be the same’
Sunday People says In the end, it comes down to a queue. How much more British can you get?
At the time of writing, there is a queue for the queue, so I suppose you can get 2x more British.
Years ago, someone French asked me what the most quintessentially British thing was – what was central to our identity beyond roast beef, pubs, and village cricket?
I went for the shipping forecast and conkers but I should have said queueing. It is beyond belief in London at the moment, a line of people stretching alongside the Thames – for four miles or so – to pay their respects.
The scale and the amount of planning and effort that has gone into it is quite something.

Crucial role of military in Queen’s funeral as heroes honour special relationship
Sunday People says The military have always played a huge part in the Queen’s life – and their proud role continues in her death.
As Her Majesty’s coffin made its sombre journey from Buckingham Palace down the Mall to Westminster Hall on Wednesday, 500 members of the armed forces accompanied her.
Two full rehearsals for tomorrow’s funeral have taken place this week, with the 4,500-strong military parade set to march via Queen’s Gardens, the Mall, Horse Guards Parade and Horse Guards Arch, Whitehall, Parliament Street, Parliament Square and New Palace Yard.
Pallbearers from The Queen’s Company 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards carried her coffin inside Westminster Hall to lie in state.

The Great British Bake Off still on as TV schedules change after Queen’s death
Sunday People says The Great British Bake Off has survived the TV upheaval after the Queen’s death.
Many programmes have been delayed or cancelled in the wake of the nation’s immense loss.
There is doubt if Strictly Come Dancing’s planned launch on Saturday will go ahead as the Queen’s funeral is two days later. And today there will be special editions of Songs of Praise, Countryfile and Antiques Roadshow.
But GBBO, whose former winner Nadiya Hussain baked the Queen a birthday cake for her 90th, is back on Channel 4 on Tuesday.
A batch of 12 new contestants will try to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith by producing 12 mini cakes, alongside other challenges.

A survey shows 34% borrow money on crippling short-term repayment rates that can top 1,300% annually.
Almost half admitted skipping meals because they are so hard up – and one in 10 used a food bank in the past year.
The revelations will raise fresh concerns over staff being well enough to maintain high standards of patient care.
Tonight, unions called for urgent support for those who put their lives on the line in the pandemic.
