The Sunday Express leads with a “secret plot to oust” prime minister Liz Truss. The paper says it has been told that around 100 MPs are backing a plan to bring the PM’s “catastrophic” stint in No 10 to an end and appoint her successor without a contest.” 

The paper claims that it has now emerged that sacked chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng had argued against Truss’s plans to cut taxes for the wealthiest. 

The front page also has a story on the hit TV show The Crown – as royal experts are reportedly concerned that the beginning of King Charles III’s reign may be tarred by the new series – set to be released next month. It is set to focus on the end of Charles and his ex-wife Princess Diana’s relationship as well as her tragic death. It is understood, her son Prince William is unhappy that the new series will recreate Diana’s death and her infamous BBC interview.

Express says According to the Zoe Health Study, there is an estimated 3,084,268 symptomatic Covid cases in the UK right now, which doesn’t include asymptomatic cases. The figures are based on PCR and LFT (lateral flow test) data updated on October 14, 2022. “Incidence rates are now being calculated with a two day lag to help us track the Omicron outbreak,” the research team noted.

Covid infections have steadily been increasing since mid September and, as with all viruses, the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (which causes Covid) is “rapidly evolving”.

Terror reigns at Russian military base as attackers launch bloody assault and kill 11

Express says Russia’s Ministry of Defence described the attackers as “terrorists” in a statement confirming the shootings issued via the state news agency RIA Novosti.

Two Russian army reservists killed eleven soldiers and injured 15 in a lethal shooting incident at a military training base in the Belgorod region. The attack took place on Saturday at 10am local time at a base in the Valuysky district. The assailants were shot and killed a few minutes later by military staff.

The injured were transferred to the Valuyskaya Central District Hospital.

Liverpool send scouts to hijack Chelsea transfer plans as Boehly plots £80m spree

Express says Chelsea are looking to splash the cash in the January transfer window.

Liverpool are reportedly scouting RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku in hope that they can prise him away from a move to Chelsea. The France international has already completed his medical ahead of a move to Stamford Bridge but a deal between the clubs has not yet been agreed.

Nkunku has been one of Europe’s top performers this year, impressing in the Bundesliga last season and kickstarting the new campaign in equally electric form. The 24-year-old has scored seven in 10 league appearances, with Chelsea in a prime position to secure his signature at some stage in 2023.

Ghislaine Maxwell claims Prince Andrew photo is fake in bombshell prison interview

Express says The jailed sex trafficker is serving 20 years in the Tallahassee’s Federal Correctional Institute in Florida.

Speaking from prison, Ghislaine Maxwell claimed the infamous photo showing Prince Andrew with Virginia Roberts, now Giuffre, and herself in the background, could be fake. Ms Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence for helping disgraced financier Epstein to abuse women.

In a bid to defend her “dear friend” Prince Andrew, Ms Maxwell said she also believes the photo could be fake, something the Prince has hinted at in the past.
