Succession season 4 will the HBO drama’s final instalment (Picture: AP)
Succession season 4’s opening episode was everything we’d hoped for, from Logan Roy’s (Brian Cox) foul-mouthed zingers to Cousin Greg (Nicholas Braun) being, well, Cousin Greg.
While fans waited for the HBO drama’s final instalment, there have been many theories floating around on the internet, and they have hit the nail on the head with one major plot shocker.
Season 3 of the family drama, created by Peep Show’s Jesse Armstrong, concluded on a jaw-dropping episode of biblical betrayal, which saw the Roy siblings finally reunite in a bid to topple their dad from the family empire.
Shiv (Sarah Snook), Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) schemed at their mother’s Italian wedding, forming a supermajority to block Logan’s deal with billionaire Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård).
However, Logan got wind of their plan before they delivered the final blow, stopping them in their tracks, with him seen patting Tom Wamsbsgans (Matthew Macfayden) on the back.
Clearly, Shiv’s husband had tipped off the patriarch, which left many fans speculating their already dicey marriage was on the chopping block.
Relationships were still strained during season 4 episode 1 as the Roy siblings, who haven’t spoken to their father since the failed coup, plotted to thwart another of his business dealings.
Tom, meanwhile, has sided with Logan, and it was revealed that he and Shiv were ‘on a break’, with his wife living in a hotel instead of their luxury New York apartment.
While they had several strained phone calls, Tom and Shiv finally came face-to-face as she went back to their home to collect more clothes, with Tom asking her if she ‘wanted to talk.’

Shiv began chiding him over his supposed dalliances with models but Tom, standing up to her for the first time ever, said: ‘Do you really want to get into a full accounting of all the pain in our marriage? Because if you do, I can do that.’
‘I think it might be time for you and I to move on,’ Shiv, visibly upset, tells him.
Tom – in classic Succession style – responds with a simple: ‘Uh, huh,’ followed by: ‘That makes me sad. You don’t want to talk about what happened?’

The pair then agree to split up ‘with their heads held high’ and both lie down on the bed and hold hands in a moving scene.
Fans had called the inevitable break-up after season 3, with one writing: ‘Shiv about to divorce Tom in the next season.’
Another, sharing the promo poster for season 4, said: ‘Would like to cordially invite you to the divorce of Tom Wambsgans and Siobhan “Shiv” Roy.’

‘I love how they are slowly showing how Tom is feeling the discrimination in treatment from Shiv and her father and I am sure he is going to flip and hopefully divorce her,’ a third remarked.
But does this really mean Shiv and Tom are over for good?
Succession continues on Monday on Sky Atlantic and Now.
