Strictly Come Dancing’s Krishnan Guru-Murthy was thrilled to discover he has some fans in very high places – namely Bono and the rest of U2. No biggie.
The Channel 4 newsreader, 52, who is competing in the BBC show against the likes of Bobby Brazier and Angela Rippon, was sent a surprise video message from the With or Without You hitmakers.
The delighted journalist shared the clip, which featured Bono and The Edge, on his Instagram page, with the two musicians rapping the lyrics of their tune Elevation before wishing Krishnan and his dance partner, Lauren Oakley, good luck.
The Beautiful Day hitmakers recorded the message during a break from their juggernaut Las Vegas residency at the £1.8bn Sphere arena, which is running until Christmas.
Krishnan captioned the post: ‘The team told Bono and The Edge in Las Vegas that we were dancing the Paso for #Strictly and they kindly sent us a message to ELEVATE our performance.
‘@laurenmayoakley apologies the captions won’t work for some reason – but he’s saying “A mole, digging in a hole, digging up my soul now, going down, excavation. Iron Eye in the sky, you make me feel like I can fly, so high, elevation. Good luck Krishnan and Lauren, not that we believe in luck.” #U2.’

Lauren was among the first to respond and, naturally, she was losing her mind, writing: ‘Sorry but what just happened 😭 Bono said my name. Actual tears.’
Susanna Reid was also impressed by the pair’s celebrity fans, commenting: ‘Amazing! 👏.’
To date, Krishnan and Lauren have performed the foxtrot to Love Really Hurts Without You by Billy Ocean, earning 20 points, and the cha cha cha to Boom Shack-A-Lack by Apache Indian, scoring 22 points.

However, his decision to sign up for Strictly has come with some trepidation as he previously revealed ‘various health issues’, including one that caused the death of two of his cousins.
‘I’m really starting to have this realisation: you have to get the absolute most out of life before you’re decrepit,’ he told The Guardian.
‘I’ve got various health issues, which I’m constantly aware of. I’ve got a genetic heart condition – hypertrophic cardiomyopathy – which has killed two of my cousins, Crohn’s disease, various other things I won’t bore you with.
What is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy?
The NHS explains that cardiomyopathy is ‘a general term for diseases of the heart muscle, where the walls of the heart chambers have become stretched, thickened or stiff. This affects the heart’s ability to pump blood around the body’.
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which Krishnan has, is a condition where a patient’s heart muscle cells enlarge and the walls of the heart chambers thicken.
The heart chambers cannot hold as much blood, because they are reduced in size, and ‘the walls cannot relax properly and may stiffen’.
‘Also, the flow of blood through the heart may be obstructed,’ the national health service outlines.
While the NHS stresses that most people who have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy don’t have symptoms and don’t need treatment, it is ‘the most common cause of sudden unexpected death in childhood and in young athletes’.
‘I even asked my cardiologist if I might drop dead live on BBC One. No, was his answer – but he couldn’t give me an absolute guarantee.’
The presenter outlined how he has to be ‘careful’ of his heartbeat increasing to a certain level, the ‘final 15%’ in the ‘red zone’.

‘They’ve been asking me to do these sorts of shows for years. What if I kept saying no? It might not be physically possible for me to do it now – that remains to be seen. But it certainly won’t be possible in five years,’ he added.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One and iPlayer on Saturday at 6.20pm.
