Stranger Things creators rule out major theory about ending

Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer have put a stop once and for all to a wild fan theory concerning the Netflix show’s conclusion.

After a rollicking ride, the sci-fi series, which stars the likes of Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour, will draw to a close on season 5, and, naturally, everyone has sneaking suspicions about the residents of Hawkins’ fate.

One of the more, to put it politely, out there theories is that all the past events, including Vecna’s (Jamie Campbell Bower) mass destruction, well, never existed.

Instead, some fans are adamant that Stranger Things has just being one big, long game of Dungeons and Dragons – and none of it is real.

Fortunately for creativity and imagination’s sake, the Duffer brothers laughed off the suggestion while speaking to Metro.co.uk at the premiere of the West End and the first theatre spin-off of the TV show, titled Stranger Things: The First Shadow.

When grilled about the Dungeons and Dragons rumour on the red carpet outside London’s Phoenix Theatre on Thursday, the Duffer brothers erupted into jovial giggles, with Matt joking: ‘That is correct. That is the ending…. No.’

Jumping in, Ross explained: ‘That would be the equivalent of, “That’s all a dream”. No, I assure you that is not how we’re going to end the show.

‘We’ve known where we’ve been going for a while. And we feel comfortable with it; hopefully, it satisfies everyone. We’ll see.’

While the plot details of season 5 are being kept strictly under wraps, earlier this year, the writers of Stranger Things dropped a huge clue.

On the official Twitter account for the Stranger Things writers, a new tweet posted on Tuesday March 21 read: ‘Season 5 is like if season 1 and 4 had a baby. And then that baby was injected with steroids.’

A teaser trailer has also been released but it was, in typical Stranger Things style, a mystery – but left fans concerned over Steve Harrington’s (Joe Keery) fate.

In the clip, Steve’s former workplace Scoops Ahoy is advertising new ice cream flavours.

‘An ocean of joy with scoops ahoy,’ the narrator says.

While the majority questioned how this links to the upcoming season, others were worried something tragic awaits ‘beloved babysitter’ Steve.

‘Without Steve Harrington I don’t want,’ one person wrote.

Meanwhile, In December last year, Noah Schnapp hinted at how Will’s story will end, saying: ‘I can just tell you that I’m very very excited for what’s to come.

‘I think they did a great job with Will’s character this season, and beautifully addressed everything they needed to. The way they closed the show is just perfect – the story started with Will, and it’ll end with Will.’
