Stormzy has revealed he intends to make amends with his long-lost father, who walked out on the family when the rapper was a child.
The Vossi Bop hitmaker has opened up about his life and career in an incredibly personal sit-down with Louis Theroux for the filmmaker’s new BBC Two series.
In the wide-ranging chat, Stormzy, 29, opens up about his split from ex-girlfriend Maya Jama, being stabbed multiple times in his youth and battling his mental health amid his growing fame.
At one point during the conversation, the Brit Award-winning rapper reveals the status of his relationship with his estranged father, who left the family to start another one elsewhere.
Stormzy was raised by his mother Abigail, who admitted in the programme that her pregnancy was a ‘miracle’ as she was on the pill when she conceived the musician.
‘As much as it’s my dad, he’s a flawed man,’ Stormzy – real name Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr – told Louis in the first episode of Louis Theroux Interviews.

He continued: ‘I’ve kind of got to give him the same grace that I want from the world. The same grace that I wanted from Maya. Really and truly, you’re just a flawed man. Your mistake was a big one, you f****d up bad as in you left your kids.
‘I know he’s really sorry, he’s reached out through my mum, my sisters about being sorry and he’s spoken to people.’
When asked if their reconciliation has happened, Stormzy said: ‘Not yet, not properly. I’m gonna speak to him, yeah. 100% I have the power to say I forgive you and free you of all these things that you probably feel because of this massive mistake that you made.’
Viewers were particularly moved by the Big For Your Boots rapper’s honesty about his father, with one tweeting: ‘Just watching your Louis Theroux documentary. When you let your pain go from your dad, I remember doing that wiv my mum, so I resonate. You are, really, a lovely man and a good person.’

Another said: ‘To hold so much anger towards his Dad and still willing to forgive. He’s an incredible soul.’
One other admitted: ‘Not a fan of your music!! Think it me being 64 , but I really enjoyed your interview with Louis !!! You came across as a decent chap who loves his mum and will hopefully forgive his dad !!’
Elsewhere during the 45-minute episode, Stormzy admitted he made ‘mistakes’ in his four-year relationship with Maya which ended in 2018.
However, he’s optimistic about his dating future and hopes to marry and have children eventually.
