The Guardian – Starmer told to resurrect Sure Start to help poorest 

The Guardian says Labour grandees want Keir Starmer to put a new Sure Start-style programme at the heart of the party’s manifesto. It says new research has shown the scheme had a “transformational impact” on the academic success of children from poor backgrounds.

The former prime minister, Gordon Brown, and three former education secretaries including David Blunkett are quoted. He tells the paper reinventing the policy would be crucial to the well-being of many young people for years to come.

The front page has a picture of eclipse watchers in Mexico, gazing at the phenomenon that occurred on Monday afternoon.
