Starfield – to quote Futurama, ‘Oh you were serious. Let me laugh even harder.’ (Picture: Microsoft)
A new contender for funniest/stupidest fan petition is making the rounds as it tries to force Microsoft to make Starfield a PS5 exclusive.
While there are examples of fan outrage causing game publishers to backtrack on unpopular decisions, the one thing that never works is trying to convince them to support – or not support – additional formats.
Demands for Sony to uncancel Days Gone 2 fell on deaf ears and a petition to cancel Hideo Kojima’s Xbox exclusive for ‘betraying’ PlayStation fans was promptly ignored… for obvious reasons.
Now another, even sillier, fan petition is making the rounds, seeking to not just bring Xbox exclusive Starfield to PlayStation 5, but to also make it and all future Bethesda games only available for Sony’s console.
It should be noted that there are legitimate concerns to be had with Microsoft’s ownership of Bethesda. Despite promises that not every Bethesda game would be exclusive to Xbox, every post-acquisition Bethesda title has been exactly that.
However, the petition’s demands are undeniably outlandish and unreasonable, clearly having been put together by some very bitter and delusional PlayStation fans.
‘Xbox and its 12 dedicated players do not deserve Starfield or any exclusivity. Not only are they arrogant and annoying but since the showcase they have been irritating. It’s a psyop. They now purposely spread Starfield news to try and make us PlayStation owners upset,’ it reads.
‘Arrogant and annoying’ demonstrates a hilarious lack of self-awarness, but the funniest part is that it argues that Starfield needs to come to PlayStation to avoid being a buggy mess.
What difference being on PlayStation is supposed to make to how many bugs there are is not clear, but then the whole thing is nonsense.
‘If it releases on Xbox, it’s a bad game. If it releases on PlayStation, it’s a good game. There’s no other way around it. Anyone who says otherwise is spreading fake news,’ it continues.
Nothing quite validates your argument like using a phrase coined by a man who was recently arrested over 37 criminal charges.
Starfield – the wilful ignorance on display would almost be admirable if it wasn’t so pathetic (Picture: Microsoft)
Between the impossible goals and absurd logic, we almost suspect this is a prank or parody. It’s certainly more unhinged than the negative user review someone gave Starfield on Metacritic, despite not having played it yet.
Regardless, at the time of writing, just over 1,000 people have signed the petition since its June 15 publication, but that ultimately doesn’t matter.
At best, this petition will get a laugh around the Microsoft offices before swiftly being ignored and forgotten about.
