Star-studded comedy dominates Netflix charts with nearly 12,000,000 views
A star-studded Netflix series has dominated the charts with more than 51 million hours watched in just a few days.
Co-written by Mean Girls and Saturday Night Live star Tina Fey, The Four Seasons dropped on Netflix on Thursday, May 1, and has immediately become a favourite with viewers.
The eight-part programme also stars Steve Carell, Will Forte and Colman Domingo.
An adaptation of the 1981 film of the same name, the limited series follows a group of six college friends who meet up at a lake house for a reunion holiday.
Cracks appear in all three couples after Nick (Steve Carell) decides that he wants to divorce wife Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver) after 25 years of marriage.
Viewers clearly couldn’t get enough
Despite only premiering a matter of days ago, viewers clearly couldn’t get enough and binged through the series quickly.
In fact, the Four Seasons has topped the charts over the last seven days, boasting a huge 51.1million hours viewed in total, and over 11.9million views so far.
It beat out stiff competition from other Netflix originals, including seasons one and five of You, Ransom Canyon, Black Mirror and Turning Point.
How do fans rate it?
The episodes have received glowing reviews from fans, who flocked to social media to urge others to tune in.
BrookeOnAir posted: ‘The Four Seasons on Netflix is kinda great. Why aren’t we talking about this?! [sic].’
One person who was presumably more excited than most was PinkDiscoBall77, who watched the entire thing in one go: ‘My family and I just watched The Four Seasons in one sitting! I loved it so much!’
Don’t watch it with your partner
However, one viewer urged people not to watch it with their spouses, with the series giving an unglamorous look at the conflicts in a marriage.
NeekoC18 cautioned on Twitter: ‘Yeah, don’t watch this with your significant other – [this is] not a couple’s TV show.’
On Facebook, Tanya was surprised but pleased to learn the 1981 film had been remade: ‘Wait they remade this? I randomly watched the unhinged original a couple years ago lol.’
The original movie from 1981
The original film, from 1981, was written by, directed by, and starred M*A*S*H legend Alan Alda, and earned $50m at the global box office (equivalent £130m in 2025).
It became a cult classic with a growing fanbase over the years, even renewing interest in Antonio Vivaldi’s 18th century composition series of the same name.
That same year, it received four Golden Globe nominations and won a Bodil Award for best non-European film.
To date, it has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 76% based on 17 reviews, both retrospective and contemporary, and a solid audience rating of 75%.
As for the Netflix series, it currently has a 77% critics ranking on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to 68% from fans.
