Spider-Man 2 – should the game be longer or cheaper? (Picture: Insomniac Games)
The new Spider-Man game is just around the corner, so read on for the latest on release dates, villains, prices, and more.
As the biggest PlayStation 5 exclusive of the year, Spider-Man 2 is highly anticipated by fans, not least because it’s now three years since spin-off Miles Morales and five years since the original game on PlayStation 4.
There has been controversy though, most of it centred around its price and the fact that it’s claimed it can be completed in 17 hours or less.
That’s still unlikely to put many fans off though, so here’s the low-down on when Insomniac’s new game comes out, where to play it, who the villains are, and more.
When is Spider-Man 2 on PS5 released?
Spider-Man 2 comes out on October 20, exclusively on PlayStation 5. The new release won’t have early access, but you can pre-order it and set it up on your console before the October 20 release.
If you’ve pre-ordered the game, you can pre-load it immediately, and play it as soon as the game is released. Rumours suggest that Spider-Man 2 will be live to play at midnight on October 19/20.

Is Spider-Man 2 coming to Xbox or PC?
Although it’s only available on PlayStation 5 at launch, there will likely be a PC version at some point, but probably not for a couple of years. However, the game will never be released on Xbox or Nintendo Switch.
Not only does Sony publish the game but they also own developer Insomniac Games, so there’s zero chance of it being released on rival formats.
Not all Marvel games are PlayStation exclusives though and there are plenty of multiformat titles, including upcoming games based on Iron Man and Black Panther from EA.

Are there Spider-Man 2 special editions and bundles?
You can buy a limited time Spider-Man 2 themed PlayStation 5 console bundle with game and controller for £569.99. If you prefer the look of the white PlayStation 5, you can also get the same bundle without the Spider-Man paint job for £539.99.
You can also pre-order a Collector’s Edition of the game, which includes the game, a 19-inch statue of Venom and both Spider-Men, and different in-game perks, for £219.99.
Sony is clearly putting a lot of weight behind the game by selling the game with its console, which so far hasn’t had many limited editions like this.

Who are the villains in Spider-Man 2?
As far as Spider-Man 2 villains go, Kraven the Hunter is the one that kicks off the plot, as he invades New York City trying to hunt both Spider-Men. As the marketing makes clear, Venom is also in it, along with other supervillains like Lizard, Scorpion, Mister Negative, and Sandman.
Although other villains are featured they’re meant more as surprises and cameos, with Kraven’s army of followers being your main opponents for the first half of the game.
Is Spider-Man 2 part of the MCU?
No, Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018), its half-sequel Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020), and Spider-Man 2 (2023) are not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite bearing Marvel’s name.
The games are set in their own continuity and have their own spin on many of the characters, such as Venom not being Eddie Brock. There are references and cameos relating to other non-Spider-Man characters though (which we’re not going to spoil here) while Avengers Tower is a very visible part of the New York City skyline.
What is the Spider-Man 2 story?
The new Spidey game will include both Peter Parker and Miles Morales and the story is set nine months after Spider-Man: Miles Morales, from 2020.
MJ and Peter are still dating but they’re aren’t living together, while Miles is getting ready to go to college. Naturally, all that is thrown upside down once Kraven invades but there’s also the problem of Peter’s friend Harry Osborn and the peculiar black suit he wears to cure himself of his illness…
