Sofia Vergara has poured cold water over a Modern Family reboot – but joked they need to sort an official reunion soon due to Ed O’Neill’s age.

The 51-year-old starred as the iconic Gloria Delgado Pritchett in the sitcom, which ran for 11 seasons until 2020.

She recently hosted most of the cast at her home in November but nearly gave viewers a heart attack when she posed with a framed photo of Ty Burrell – who wasn’t able to attend the meet-up.

However, during an appearance on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, to promote her new Netflix series, Griselda, the host questioned whether it was time for a revival.

‘No, it’s only been four years,’ she simply replied, to laughter from the audience.

When asked how much time needs to pass for a revival, Sofia continued: ‘I don’t know but it doesn’t seem right. I feel like we need a little more time.

‘We don’t have much time, since Ed is old.’

Side note: Ed is only 77 which means there is plenty of time left for a spin-off or two.

Their mini reunion was the first time the majority of the cast had spent time together in a group since Modern Family officially wrapped in 2020, with the global pandemic sending everyone into lockdown shortly after production ended.

The America’s Got Talent judge admitted that it was ‘hard’ to be away from her co-stars so suddenly after spending more than a decade together, but vowed their group chat is always popping off.

Someone may just need to teach Ed, aka Jay Pritchett, how to do more than ‘double click’ with his phone.

Sofia said: ‘It was weird, it was crazy because we were together [for] 11 years, five days a week. It was hard but we’re always on chats.

‘The only one who is not very good, because he’s very old, is Ed O’Neill. He’s not good with them.

‘He’s not good with texting. We joke about something, or we say something, and he reacts 26 weeks later. And then nobody knows what he’s talking about.’

We absolutely need to be in that group chat.

Although Ed hasn’t quite mastered the challenges of a group chat, he recently dropped a bombshell of his own during an appearance on castmate Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Dinner’s On Me podcast, confessing that he nearly pursued a career in crime before his journey to Hollywood.

Chatting to his on-screen son, he explained that he found himself looking for a job in his hometown in Ohio after his football career ended abruptly – when a friend came to him with a questionable opportunity.

‘We’re driving and he said, “How you doing? You know, you, you got cut, you got no money”. I said, “No, I’m broke. You know, I don’t know what I’m going to do”,’ he shared, detailing their bizarre trip to a bar, where they went to look for a ‘friend’.

Ed revealed: ‘We left and he said, “You can do this kind of stuff for me, you know, I’ll protect you”,’ he said. “I’ll give you easy stuff. Just you collect here. You do that. You run, you drop something off here and there. You know, you may have to lean on a guy. You’re good at that. You can make some good money…

‘I said, “Let me think about it, Jim. Cause I’m, I don’t know. I might be leaving town to pursue this acting thing.”‘

His dad stepped in at exactly the right moment, and steered him back to normality with just one question.

He added: ‘He said, “I saw you take a ride with Jimmy… I just want to ask you a question. Can you do time?”

After replying ‘no’, the Married With Children favorite was told he would likely ‘have a hard time being in jail’, enough of a warning to make him decline the offer.

And the rest is history…
