The sight of Kate Hudson bopping along to Sir Elton John at Glastonbury was almost too much for some fans to handle, as they pointed out the parallels to her iconic role in the 2000 movie classic Almost Famous.
Last night, the Rocketman delivered one of the best headline acts in the festival’s history, creating an unforgettable spectacle on the Pyramid Stage featuring several special guests, including popstar Rina Sawayama and The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers.
While a few individuals rumoured to have been taking part were notably absent, namely Britney Spears and Dua Lipa, the 76-year-old, the performance was a masterclass in entertainment from start to finish.
Several A-listers were spotted soaking up the music on the side of the stage, including Lizzo, Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney and Kate.
People watching at home on the BBC who spotted Kate couldn’t help but draw references to her part as Penny Lane in Almost Famous, with one of the film’s most iconic scenes featuring her and other characters singing along to Sir Elton’s 1971 song Tiny Dancer while they’re on the band Stillwater’s tour bus.
During the scene in question, lead character William Miller (Patrick Fugit) turns to Penny and says: ‘I have to go home,’ to which she replies: ‘You are home.’

So it’s safe to say that watching Penny Lane herself, Kate, singing and dancing to Sir Elton more than two decades after she starred in the film, as well as being Oscar-nominated for her performance.
‘Kate Hudson watching Elton John at Glastonbury. I’m gonna pretend that this is actually just Penny Lane from Almost Famous,’ one person tweeted.
‘Kate Hudson was dancing in the wings with Lizzo – I was sure we were going to have a reenactment of that Almost Famous scene!’ another said.
Someone else shared how much the movie meant to them, writing: ‘Almost Famous is one of my favourite films with the Tiny Dancer scene being a highlight. Very nice then to see Kate Hudson, of said film & scene, in the wings at Elton John’s gig tonight at Glastonbury.’
‘I missed it, but apparently Kate Hudson was there watching Elton do Tiny Dancer, and now I must rewatch Almost Famous. It’s my “Break In Case Of Emergency Sads” film. A warm blanket of a movie,’ one person shared.
While Kate was filmed singing along to Sir Elton’s Your Song, some Twitter users pointed out the missed opportunity of her not being caught on camera during Tiny Dancer.
Sir Elton welcomed several special guests onto the stage for his first ever time headlining Glastonbury.
In addition to Rina and Brandon, he also shared the stage with Jacob Lusk from Gabriels and London Community Gospel Choir and singer Stephen Sanchez.
