Julieta M, 29, was allegedly murdered by her own brother who was seen carrying her head away
A teenager has been arrested in Mexico after allegedly decapitating his own sister and carrying her head in front of shocked bystanders.
The 19-year-old, who has been named only as Sebastián M, is suspected of murdering Julieta M, 29, in Quiroga, a small town in the state of Michoacán.
Police were called to reports of a young man holding a human head walking along a highway in the town’s outskirts on Saturday, according to Michoacán’s public prosecutor’s office.
The suspect, who was said to be in a state of ‘intoxication’, was arrested near a government welfare office by armed officers who seized a shotgun from him.

The rest of the body was later found around 250 metres away and has since been taken away for forensic examinations.
According to local media, the state prosecutor’s office identified the suspect and victim as being brother and sister.
Authorities have yet to comment on the possible motive for the murder or whether any other people might have been involved.
Prosecutors have not commented on why or how Julieta was murdered
Sebastián M remains in the custody of the state prosecutor’s office while he is investigated.
Mexico has one of the world’s highest rates of murder as well as femicide, which refers to the murder of women where the victim’s gender is a key factor in their death.
On average, 10 women or girls are killed every day in the country by intimate partners or family members, according to government figures.
The issue has sparked several waves of protest in recent years, with campaigners calling for more thorough police investigations, more prosecutions and tougher sentencing.
