Shawn Mendes cancels Glasgow gig at Ovo Hydro due to health concerns
The singer-songwriter was due to take to the stage at the Ovo Hydro on July 28 next year as part of his Wonder world tour.
The Canadian star had previously postponed his tour date from April this year in the hopes of returning after “some much-needed time off”.
However, in a statement shared today Mendes said: “I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away.”
He went on to explain that after working with an “incredible group of health professionals” he had made the decision to cancel all of his remaining tour dates and promised, “I will be back as soon as I’ve taken the right time to heal”.
A spokesperson for the Ovo Hydro said: “CANCELLED SHOW.
“Sadly, Shawn Mendes’s show at the OVO Hydro on 28 July 2023 has been cancelled. Please see his statement below.
“Refunds are available from point of purchase.
“Look after yourself Shawn, looking forward to having you back soon.”
The Grammy award winner, who shot to fame with his song Stitches in 2016, has previously been open with fans about his struggles with mental health and fame.
In an open letter to fans posted on social media in April, he said he felt “overwhelmed and overstimulated” but had been afraid to admit it in case people “think less of me”.
