Shane MacGowan’s wife has posted a tribute to Hollywood star Johnny Depp, crediting him for helping to support her and her late musician husband.
The legendary Irish musician died in November at the age of 65, devastating his famous friends, family and fans around the world.
His funeral, which began in Dublin before taking place in a church in Nenagh, County Tipperary on Friday, saw the likes of his close friend Depp doing a reading, while his family danced in the pews and The Pogues performed their huge festive hit, Fairytale of New York.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Sunday night, MacGowan’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke shared a photo of herself and the Pirates of the Caribbean actor, 60, clutching red roses and smiling as they posed together outside in long coats.
Keen to thank Depp for his kindness, she wrote: ‘When you lose a loved one you need to be able to focus on the blessings and I want to thank #johnnydepp for being a tower of strength and for supporting me and @ShaneMacGowan in so many ways with such respect and compassion and loyalty.’
Depp had also been a guest at her and MacGowan’s wedding in 2018.

She was also grateful for singer Imelda May’s performance, who had given a rendition of You’re The One at his funeral.
‘Such a huge honour to sing a final farewell with @declanorourke and @lliamm7 for our friend, genius and legend @ShaneMacGowan,’ she had posted on X over the weekend, adding: ‘Much love to @Victoriamary.’
‘Thank you so much @ImeldaOfficial,’ journalist Clarke, 57, then responded, alongside three heart emoji.
