Shakira’s mother, Nidia del Carmen Ripoll, was sent to hospital in order to be treated for a blood clot in her leg as a matter of urgency, it’s been reported.
According to Spanish media, Ripoll was admitted to a hospital in Barcelona, Spain on Tuesday, after suffering from thrombosis, which occurs when blood clots form in the veins or arteries.
Shakira is the only child of Ripoll and her father, William Mebarak Chadid.
A source close to the family is said to have confirmed that Ripoll was still undergoing medical check-ups, but has since returned home after her hospital trip and is ‘out of danger’, El Heraldo reported.
The Hips Don’t Lie singer is yet to speak out on her mother’s condition.
Telemundo also reported that Ripoll’s hospitalisation came about after she started suffering discomfort as a result of the thrombosis, before later being discharged.

In June last year, Shakira – full name Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll – revealed that her father had been hospitalised after he suffered a ‘bad fall’.
Sharing a picture of the elderly man with a bruised and bandaged face, the 46-year-old wrote on social media at the time: ‘Guys, I’m getting a lot of messages of concern that I was seen in an ambulance in Barcelona recently.
‘I just wanted to let you know that those photos are from last weekend (the 28th) when my dad unfortunately had a bad fall and I accompanied him in an ambulance to the hospital where he is recovering now.’

She thanked fans for their ‘love and support’ while urging people to send her father their ‘best wishes’.
Shortly before her father’s accident, it was revealed that Shakira and her partner of 10 years Gerard Piqué, 36, had broken up. The former couple share two children together.
‘We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding,’ a statement announcing the split read.
Last month, Shakira appeared to take another swipe at Piqué’s partner, 23-year-old Clara Chia Marti, saying in an interview: ‘There is a place in hell reserved for women who don’t support other women.’
