Senior UN officials discuss $3.32 billion humanitarian aid plan for Ukraine
Senior United Nations officials met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv to discuss a $3.32 billion humanitarian support package aimed at aiding millions affected by the ongoing war with Russia.
The UN’s appeal, announced this week, seeks to provide critical assistance to over eight million people impacted by the conflict, including six million within Ukraine and support for the governments of 11 countries hosting Ukrainian refugees.
In a statement, the UN emphasised the importance of this funding in delivering life-saving aid and addressing the severe humanitarian crisis brought on by the war.
The delegation to Kyiv included UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher, as well as the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi. Together, they outlined strategies to bolster humanitarian efforts within Ukraine and across the region.
The meetings come amid a busy period of diplomatic engagement for Zelenskyy, as he works to secure international support ahead of changes in U.S. leadership that could signal shifts in foreign policy toward Ukraine.
