Second person dies in M25 crash after police pursuit
Hertfordshire Police say a second person has died after a collision involving a van pursued by police, which collided with three other vehicles.
The incident occurred on the M25 motorway between junction 22 (London Colney) and 21A (St Albans) around 04:00 GMT on Sunday.
Following the crash, a woman passed away on Sunday, and subsequently, a man’s death was confirmed on Tuesday.
Police have arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The circumstances leading up to the collision, particularly the actions of the police preceding the incident, have prompted an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Hertfordshire Police clarified that their officers were pursuing the van before its collision with the three other vehicles.
In a statement, the force said: “No police vehicles were involved in the collision and the pursuit had been stood down prior to the collision.”
