Scotland 1-3 England: Jude Bellingham puts on world-class performance
Scotland met England in the latest of the world’s oldest football rivalry, where England dominated and Jude Bellingham offered up a world-class performance.
The heritage match marked the 150-year anniversary of the first-ever international match, when England and Scotland played in 1872.
Scotland haven’t beaten England since 1999.
In the 42nd minute, Phil Foden sliced open the scoreline, silencing the Scottish stadium, before the terrific Jude Bellingham scored just three minutes later.
A mistake from England defender Harry Maguire led to an England own goal, bringing hope to the home crowd. It appeared to wake up the crowd and the players and Scotland had several periods of strong play, and it looked like they might be able to equalise the scoreline.
But England offered up some intricate movement, allowing Harry Kane to slot home a third goal for England, following an incredible Bellingham assist.
The first official meeting between Scotland and England took place on 30 November 1872 at the West of Scotland Cricket Club.
150 years on – and six miles away – the great rivalry between the two nations was another passionate affair.
Scotland had gone into the game with high hopes, they are currently top of their European Championship qualifying group with five wins from five and facing an England team who had been held 1-1 by Ukraine.
England were slick, composed and in control and deserved the win.
