School Covid absences plunge after classroom bubbles axed, with 122,500 pupils off compared to 1m in July peak
The i says more than nine in 10 state school pupils in England were in class last week, official figures show.
The statistics from the Department for Education – the first released since schools reopened at the beginning of September – show that attendance is running higher compared to both the end of the summer term and this point last year.
On Thursday, 16 September, 91.9 per cent of pupils on-roll at state schools were in attendance.
In primary schools the figure was 93.5 per cent, while attendance in secondary schools was slightly lower at 90.2 per cent.
