School bus ploughs into crowd in China killing 11
A tragic incident in China’s Shandong province has left at least 11 people dead, including five students, after a school bus ploughed into a crowd outside a school in Tai’an city. Several others were injured, with one person in critical condition.
According to state media, the bus lost control and rammed into students and parents gathered outside the school gates. The driver has been taken into custody as police investigate the cause of the crash, though it remains unclear if it was intentional.
Chinese state media confirmed that the fatalities included six parents and five students. Twelve other people are reported to be in stable condition. Disturbing images and videos circulating on social media show people trapped under the bus.
The crash comes shortly after the start of the new academic year, adding to the grief of the affected families. Deadly traffic accidents are not uncommon in China; earlier in July, a vehicle crashed into pedestrians in Changsha, resulting in eight deaths and multiple injuries.
