The Sun – Saved By the Bell

    July 1, 2024

Jude Bellingham’s spectacular last-gasp equaliser to force England’s game against Slovakia into extra-time features on The Sun. The front page is dedicated to the story with the paper noting Harry Kane’s extra-time header put England ahead.

Online, the Sun’s leads stories are all Euros related with some domestic news featuring further down the website. The website reports on the missing UK man Jay Slater after Spanish authorities called off the search for the 19-year-old.

Jude Bellingham single-handedly saves Three Lions after Man City stars’ no-show

JUDE BELLINGHAM’S majestic overhead kick deep into stoppage time saved England from a humiliating Euros exit.

Gareth Southgate’s side had been utterly woeful and looked to be heading home thanks to Ivan Schranz’s clever finish.

But Bellingham came to the rescue in the 96th minute, brilliantly firing into the corner after Marc Guehi had flicked on Kyle Walker’s long throw.

Remarkably, it was England’s first shot on target, summing how poor they had been.

Rishi Sunak makes last-gasp election pitch to thwart Labour landslide with over 100 seats on a knife-edge

RISHI Sunak has made a last-gasp General Election pitch to thwart a Labour landslide — with more than 100 seats on a knife-edge.

The PM vowed to protect Brexit, save families cash in the Net Zero transition and make Britain the best place to prosper.

He outlined how the UK had become a better place to live under the Tories in 14 years — rejecting any “declinist” attitude in Britain as “total nonsense”.

Mr Sunak also told how the last few years had been tough for people having to deal with the pandemic and rising costs after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Jay Slater’s family left ‘in the dark’ & told to use £44k GoFundMe to keep up hunt after ‘PR stunt’ final police search

JAY Slater’s devastated family have been left “in the dark” after police abruptly halted the search for the missing teen, friends say.

Cops in Tenerife dramatically called off the hunt for Jay yesterday after failing to find any trace of him in the two weeks since he vanished.

While the on the ground search has stopped, police on the island have insisted the case is still very much open.

Catch up on Today’s news summary – Paper Talk

If you are someone who reads every perspective of a story, here is a news summary of all of today’s front pages from today’s newspapers; summarised in a 2-minute read

Extra Time as Bellingham comes to the rescue

    Editorial 01 July 2024.

Monday’s front pages are dominated by two stories: the French elections and England’s National Football team.

The French headed to the polls on Sunday and as opinion polls predicted, the far-right National Rally (RN) party swept the first round of voting. The snap French elections have caused chaos in France – with many papers noting that Macron’s decision to call the election, appears to have backfired.

England’s last-16 match also features – with images of Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane on most front pages. England put in another poor performance, losing 1-0 to Slovakia before Jude Bellingham scored a stunning overhead kick to equalise – in the 95th minute. Captain Harry Kane gave England the lead just one minute into extra time.

Elsewhere, the papers also leave room for the upcoming UK general election – to be held on Thursday. There’s no surprise in how the papers cover the UK elections with the right-leaning papers warning Labour can’t be trusted on issues like defence, immigration and the economy and the left-leaning papers reporting on the 14 years of hell under the Tories and Labour’s promises of a brighter future.
