The first batch of Premier League results come at the St. Mary’s Stadium, where after dominating possession for the large majority of the game – 71% to be exact – Chelsea couldn’t find a way through Southampton’s defence, only managing an equaliser through a Mason Mount penalty in the second half.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men only managed one shot on target the entire game and fortunately for the Saints, it was Takumi Minamino’s goal in the 33rd minute. Nathan Redmond was able to split the Chelsea defence right down the middle with a through ball to the Liverpool loanee, who superbly dummied the shot from close range, sending Édouard Mendy and César Azpilicueta the wrong way, before placing the ball into the net.

Chelsea’s equalising penalty came in the 54th minute, after a rash challenge from Danny Ings brought down Mason Mount inside the box. The 22-year-old then stepped up to take the penalty, sending Southampton keeper Alex McCarthy the wrong way.

Southampton almost snatched another goal in the 71st minute, when Jannik Vestergaard’s header hit the bar after a Redmond cross. But it will be Thomas Tuchel who will be most disappointed with the result, whereas Southampton will be delighted considering their recent form. This tight contest was the beginning of what would be a day full of other closely contested Premier League Results.

After Tuchel’s first game in charge, Chelsea were seven points behind Liverpool.

Next up in today’s Premier League results came at Turf Moor. Despite West Brom having 10 men for an hour of the game, Burnley failed to take advantage, with Sam Allardyce’s men having the best chances of the game.

The red card came in the 30th minute when Burnley striker Matej Vydra attempted to knock the ball around Semi Ajayi near the half-way line, but The Baggies defender prevented it with his hand. At the next stoppage of play, Mike Dean is called to look at the VAR monitor, where he decides that Ajayi prevents a goal-scoring opportunity and subsequently sends him off.

There was another handball incident in the 52nd minute when the ball struck West Brom captain Kyle Bartley’s arm inside his own penalty area after bouncing up off the ground, but for some reason, no penalty was given – adding more VAR controversy to this season.

West Brom had two huge chances with under 20 minutes remaining. In the 71st minute, striker Mbaye Diagne broke down the right side, creating a 2v1 opportunity with Ainsley Maitland-Niles supporting him. He decides to go alone, however, and after skipping around James Tarkowski, he fires the shot off the crossbar near the top corner.

Then in the 78th minute, after the ball is squared to Matheus Pereira inside the Burnley box, he miskicks a straight forward goal-scoring chance from close range. However, West Brom managed to get the ball back quickly after, but Diagne’s shot is headed off the line by Tarkowski. Although they had a man sent off, West Brom will feel like they could have got the 3 points this game.

    Liverpool (LFC) 0 – Everton ( Toffees ) 2

Liverpool’s bad run of form at Anfield continued after two Everton goals gave them their first win at Anfield since 1999 and make it 6 games for Liverpool without a win at home.

The first goal came after just 3 minutes. James Rodríguez played a through ball to Richarlison from half-way inside Liverpool’s half, whose run in-behind the Liverpool defence into the box was finished into the far bottom corner past Liverpool keeper Alisson to give the Toffees an early lead.

Jordan Henderson had a good chance for Liverpool in the 19th minute when a volley from outside the box was well saved by Jordan Pickford. Everton also had a good chance in the first half to extend their lead, but Séamus Coleman’s header – after a great cross from Lucas Digne – was saved by the Liverpool keeper.

Liverpool have now suffered four successive Premier League defeats at Anfield, as many as they suffered in the previous 101 PL home games under Jurgen Klopp.

In the second half, Liverpool dominated possession but were unable to score. Their best chance came when Salah’s close-range effort from the right side of the six-yard box was saved by Pickford in the 69th minute.

Everton then won a controversial penalty in the 80th minute, adding to Liverpool’s frustrations. Dominic Calvert-Lewin found his way onto Richarlison’s through ball, whose shot was saved from inside the box.

However, Trent Alexander-Arnold, who had slid to contest Calvert-Lewin’s shot, then subsequently tripped the striker. After a VAR check, the penalty was given and Gylfi Sigurdsson converted it into the bottom left corner.

    Fulham 1 – Sheffield United 0

Ademola Lookman celebrates his goal against Sheffield United

Fulham grabbed a vital 3 points against Sheffield United if they are to stay up and avoid relegation after a goal by Ademola Lookman.

The first half was a rather tentative half of football, where both sides looked worried about the prospect of dropping points in the quest for Premier League survival. Fulham dominated possession and whilst they kept Sheffield United to zero shots in the half, they weren’t able to create any real chances themselves.

It wasn’t until the second half when Fulham finally broke through Chris Wilder’s team. After a long ball over the top from defender Joachim Andersen, Lookman superbly controlled it on his chest, drove into the left side of the box and powered a strike past United keeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Sheffield United’s best chance came in the 64th minute when Enda Stevens’s shot from close range from the left side of the six-yard box was saved by Fulham keeper Alphonse Areola. The win for Fulham puts them just 3 points behind Newcastle United, whereas the defeat for Sheffield adds an extra nail into the relegation coffin.
