One of the prisoners behind the savage attack with a tuna can lid on Sara Sharif’s father has been unmasked as the killer of Sarah Mayhew, it has been alleged.

Urfan Sharif, who is serving a life sentence in the high-security prison HMP Belmarsh for the murder of the little girl, was battered and sliced by fellow inmates in a cell on New Year’s Day.

Sharif reportedly suffered cuts to his face, and it is alleged that he received medical treatment inside the in london prison.

Steve Sansom, who murdered Sarah Mayhew in 2024 before scattering her body parts around Croydon, is understood to be one of the two men behind the incident, the Sun reported.

Sansom, 45, dismembered her corpse, disposed of it in multiple locations, and cleaned up the crime scene.

He was previously convicted in 1999 for the murder of a cab driver, after stabbing him in the throat and neck before fleeing with £25 on Christmas Eve 1998.

A source quoted by the newspaper said: ‘Everyone is talking about how it was Sansom who got to Sharif.

‘He and another inmate apparently pounced on him as he walked back to the wing after a shower, forced him into a cell and slashed him.

‘The other bloke, who is also a murderer, held the door shut. Sansom is a nasty piece of work and will be proud of what he has done.’

It was just three weeks ago that Sharif and his wife, Beinash Batool, were jailed for the murder of the little girl.

His daughter Sara had suffered more than 25 broken bones, iron burns on her bottom, burn marks likely from hot water on her feet, and human adult bite marks during a campaign of abuse spanning at least two years in the hands Sharif and her stepmother.

Sources revealed he has ‘a target on his back because of who he is and what he did’ to her.

HMP Belmarsh is a Category A jail housing some of the most dangerous criminals in the country.

Sharif and Sansom are just some of the notorious murderers locked up in there.

HMP Belmarsh has still not commented on Sharif’s condition and who was behind the attack. No arrests have yet been made.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: ‘Police are investigating an assault on a prisoner at HMP Belmarsh on January 1.

‘It would be inappropriate to comment further while they investigate.’
