Sandy MacIver switches to Scotland from England and is in Nations League squad
Sandy Maclver has switched her allegiance from England to Scotland and has been named for Scotland’s Nations League games this month.
The Man City goalkeeper had one England cap and has been the backup to Mary Earps.
She pulled out of England’s Finalissima squad in April and then ruled herself out of the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
She has been named by manager Pedro Martinez Losa has named the 25-year-old in his 23-player squad to face the Netherlands.
She was born in Winsford and represented England from Under-17 level. She qualifies for Scotland through her father.
Martinez Losa said MacIver – whose one game for Sarina Wiegman’s England was a friendly against Northern Ireland in February 2021 – had shown “a great desire to play for Scotland”.
She follows Amy Rodgers in switching her allegiance to Scotland after the former England Under-21 midfielder was named in Martinez Losa’s squad for friendlies against Northern Ireland and Finland in July.
Scotland has some of its best players out due to injury.
They are bottom of their group after two games but are only three points behind leaders Belgium, who face England.
