Bernice Blackstock is soon set to depart the Emmerdale village, and actress Samantha Giles has reflected on her time on the ITV soap.
Bernice is set to find herself in trouble with her family and the law in upcoming scenes when it transpires that she has wracked up a fraudulent £20,000 debt, and soon appears to go on the run.
Business partner Bob (Tony Audenshaw) is left furious when he learns that she hasn’t been paying suppliers and daughter Gabby (Rosie Bentham) is crestfallen by her mother’s abandonment.
However, it turns out that Bernice isn’t on the run at all, but hiding in the village with Cathy (Gabrielle Dowling) acting as her eyes and ears, in true Bernice style.
With her final scenes involving the comedy that we have all come to love from Bernice, actress Samantha revealed that she has loved this aspect of her character.

‘I love the comedy. I wouldn’t have been able to have played the character for so long if it hadn’t been for the light relief. She’s a complete fantasist, which I love about her!’
With Samantha having played the role of Bernice on and off since 1998, she is looking forward to being able to be more creative and ‘spread her wings’, but has revealed the things she will miss about being on the show.
‘I’m sad to be leaving colleagues and I loved getting my hair and make-up done every day, I shall miss that! I am already missing that, just look at my hair!

‘The routine of going to work too; it takes a while to realise you have to create a whole new routine for yourself, it’s great in some ways as it’s very liberating and creative, but then obviously one does miss not earning regular money too…
‘But I think it is not good to get too caught up in financial things, of course we all need to earn money, but if you are a creative person you have to feel you can spread your wings too and paint a different picture each day, rather than just the same painting day after day.’
