Salah Contract Saga Highlights Growing Frustrations with FSG & Carragher

Salah contract saga highlights the growing frustrations with FSG involving key players has brought Liverpool’s ownership model under renewed scrutiny. Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has branded Salah “selfish” for publicly expressing dissatisfaction over the club’s failure to offer him a new deal, which most fans disagree with.

    Salah Contract Saga

However, criticism of Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the club’s American owners, has escalated as fans and analysts accuse them of prioritising financial interests over key players.

Something Jamie Carragher has also failed to acknowledge, Salah has run himself to the ground, every week for Liverpool and he has left his all on the pitch, that is what playing for the badge means.

    Growing Frustrations with FSG

Appearing on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “I must say I am very disappointed with Mo Salah. Liverpool have Real Madrid midweek [in the Champions League] and Manchester City at the weekend. That’s the story right now. If he keeps putting comments out, and his agent puts out cryptic messages, that is selfish. That is thinking about themselves and not the football club.”

While Carragher condemned Salah’s actions, fans have countered that the situation reflects broader issues with FSG’s approach to player management. The treatment of long-serving players such as Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino, and Georginio Wijnaldum has underscored accusations that the owners undervalue loyalty and use Liverpool’s rich heritage to advance their financial goals.

You can’t replace Salah’s goals, not even with 100 Million

You can’t replace Salah’s goals, not even with a 100 million, so it’s illogical to think the club doesn’t value that in the current market, using the moneyball model is fair when signing new talent, but liek every analytical model, there are outliers and Mo and Virgil are those outliers.

Salah, who has been one of Liverpool’s most consistent performers and remains the club’s top scorer this season with 12 goals in all competitions, has reportedly been frustrated by FSG’s unwillingness to secure his future at Anfield.

His attempts to air grievances publicly have reportedly been curtailed by the club, with an inside source telling us that he was prevented from accepting a Man of the Match award and speaking to the press on Sunday by the club’s press secretary.

    Tensions Behind the Scenes

For fans, this reflects a lack of transparency. Many argue they deserve to know the circumstances surrounding the handling of Salah, a player considered one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever contributors.

The broader picture includes ongoing uncertainty around contracts for other pivotal players, including Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, which has only deepened skepticism toward FSG’s stewardship.

    FSG’s Detached Ownership Model

Fenway Sports Group, headquartered in Boston, has long been accused of being detached from the realities of Liverpool and its fanbase. Critics argue that decisions made from afar lack consideration for the club’s values and heritage.

The sale of Mané, a cornerstone of Liverpool’s recent success, and Firmino’s departure exemplify what many view as FSG’s hardball tactics. Fans claim the owners exploit the fans loyalty to the club’s badge and legacy to negotiate deals that align with their commercial priorities while neglecting the emotional and cultural significance of long-serving players.

Salah, who turns 32 this year, remains central to Liverpool’s success. Many supporters believe he deserves a three-year contract extension, not just as a gesture of loyalty and recognition for his extraordinary contributions but because he is worth it. Such a deal could also position the club to negotiate a future transfer Saudi on favourable terms.

    A Fractured Relationship

Liverpool, currently in contention at the top of the Premier League, faces a critical juncture as it juggles on-pitch success with off-pitch uncertainties. Whether FSG can reconcile its business-first philosophy with the emotional heartbeat of the club remains an open question—and one that may define the ownership’s legacy at Anfield.

Jamie Carragher is well aware the cracks behind the scene at LFC, yet his loyalty to his current employer supersedes that of ‘his club’ and Liverpool fans will never forget that if he contiues to take the worng side in Salah contract saga.
