Saints Row 2 – the future of the series isn’t looking to bright (Picture: Volition)
For the series’ 17th anniversary, the Saints Row Twitter account has shut down the possibility of the first two games getting remakes.
It’s hard not to feel a little bad for the Saints Row series. Rather than reinvigorate the franchise, the 2022 reboot proved incredibly polarising and nowhere near as successful as Embracer Group wanted it to be.
While it didn’t completely kill the chances of a sequel, that doesn’t seem likely now that developer Volition has become part of Gearbox.
So, if there is no sequel, perhaps Volition could fall back on remaking the older games, since that’s all the rage nowadays? Unfortunately, for the time being, it seems that’s not going to happen either.
Recently, the official Saints Row Twitter account celebrated the series’ 17th birthday, to which one fan bluntly suggested that Volition should remake the first two games.
We’re not too sure about the first one, since that was when Saints Row really was just a straight Grand Theft Auto clone. However, a Saints Row 2 remake wouldn’t be a bad idea as it’s widely considered the best entry.
However, the account made a point to answer the fan’s demand, offering an equally blunt response of ‘We have no plans to remake them.’

Unsurprisingly, this hasn’t gone down well and has only prompted further questions, as well as alternative suggestions of remasters or just straight ports.
As for what Volition is actually working on next, that’s anyone’s guess. Worst case scenario: it gets the Vicarious Visions treatment and becomes just a support studio for the next Borderlands.
