Russell Crowe forced to flee London gig as fight breaks out
Russell Crowe was escorted from his London show after a fight broke out between fans and the Hollywood icon’s team.
The Exorcism actor played a gig at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire with his band Russell Crowe’s Indoor Garden Party on Wednesday following a rousing set at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
But the Gladiator star was not in the fighting spirit when one of his reps allegedly got into a heated argument with fans and autograph hunters who had queued outside of the venue after the show to get a chance to meet Crowe.
An onlooker said things turned nasty ‘out of nowhere’ after an overzealous fan began pushing, with a brawl breaking out and The Pope’s Exorcist star Crowe fleeing into the venue.
‘Out of nowhere it turned a bit nasty,’ they told The Sun. ‘This bloke started shouting and swearing… He then saw he was being filmed and grabbed the guy’s phone.’
‘They grappled and… [ended] up on the ground,’ they added.
The fan said Crowe looked ‘horrified’ and did a ‘U-turn’ back into the venue as the fight escalated.
‘It was absolute chaos. Four police cars turned up and the coppers were talking to people about what happened,’ they continued.
They claimed Crowe did not re-emerge from the venue following the confrontation, but he did post a message to his fans before taking the tour to Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club last night.
A representative for the Metropolitan Police told Metro.co.uk: ‘Police were called at 00:20hrs on Thursday, 25 July to reports of a fight on Shepherds Bush Green, W12.
‘Officers attended. There were no arrests.’
Posting a photo of himself performing on stage on X, he wrote: ‘Thank you London! Great night. Leeds here we come !!!’
Fans praised his performance in the capital, with Chiisatora writing: ‘Thank you for at great gig last night. I came from Denmark to be there. For 20 years ago I put om my bucket list to attend at gig with Russell Crowe and band. Not so easy when you live in Denmark and got younger kids though. Absolutely fantastic evening. Just loved it all.’
Metro.co.uk has contacted representatives for Russell Crowe for comment.
