Rob McElhenney reveals the A-Listers due to be at Birmingham vs Wrexham

Rob McElhenney is expecting to enjoy Birmingham vs Wrexham on Monday night alongside David Beckham and Tom Brady in surely the most star-studded League One game ever.

McElhenney is co-owner of Wrexham along with Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds, while NFL legend Brady is a minority owner of Birmingham City.

After the Welsh side’s promotion from League Two and the Blues’ relegation from the Championship, they now meet in League One, the first time they have met in a league fixture since 1995.

Things have changed a lot for the two clubs since that last meeting, with Wrexham now attracting the likes of Beckham to come and watch them play.

Speaking in Los Angeles, McElhenney said: ‘Directly after the Emmys I’m hopping on a plane and going out to Birmingham, England, to watch Wrexham play Tom Brady’s team, Birmingham City.

‘We’re not legally allowed to bet on the games but we have fun, we have social media and whatnot. I’ll be joining him and I believe Mr David Beckham will be there as well – we should have a good time.’

It seems that Wrexham will be cheered on by another NFL superstar in Eli Manning, with the two-time Super Bowl champion declaring his allegiance to the Red Dragons on X.

Brady, himself a seven-time Super Bowl champion, responded with a video as he clutched a Super Bowl trophy while wearing a Birmingham City jumper.

‘So I’ve been working on a little response video to Eli and I’ve been looking around the house, but I can’t find the other six of these,’ said the 47-year-old.

‘Rob can you just educate the Wrexham fans just a little bit on the history of the NFL. Thanks bud. Appreciate y’all. See you Monday.’

McElhenney and Reynolds’ Welcome to Wrexham documentary has given the club an incredible standing in North America, which would have seemed unbelievable a few years ago.

Speaking ahead of Monday night’s game CBS Sports executive vice president Dan Weinberg told the New York Times: ‘A really, really high-profile match.

‘We’ve carried every Wrexham game this season and we’ll continue to lean into them as much as we can. They are impossible to ignore in this country with the celebrity influence they have and the visibility of Ryan and Rob. We are enthused by the growth of their profile in the market.

‘These two clubs have owners that resonate very well in this country.’
