Daily Express – Rioters storm migrant hotel
The Daily Express says Sunday’s violence by far-right rioters has been condemned by politicians from all sides. After a day of violence and disorder in Middlesbrough, Bolton and Rotherham, protesters have gathered outside a hotel being used to house migrants in another British town. The front page also reports that Amber Rutter was denied a gold medal as a result of a contentious decision in the Olympics women’s skeet shooting.
UK riots: Balaclava-clad baying mob set fire to migrant hotel
Protestors have smashed windows and set fire to a UK Holiday Inn, believed to house asylum seekers.
Police can be seen attempting to control angry rioters who have gathered outside the hotel in Tamworth, Staffordshire.
This is the second Holiday Inn that has been targeted today following violent riots outside another Holiday Inn in Rotherham.
Tamworth Police warned that “robust action will be taken against those responsible for violence and disorder”.
Videos posted online show dozens of rioters confronting police outside the hotel. One shows rioters wearing black face coverings and chanting: “Whose streets? Our streets.”
Team GB’s Amber Rutter ‘cheated out of Olympic gold’ after controversial skeet final
Amber Rutter came ever-so-close to securing Team GB’s 11th gold medal of the 2024 Olympics in the women’s skeet shooting following a dramatic shoot-off, only to be cruelly denied by a controversial refereeing decision.
Many, including Rutter, felt that she should have been given the chance to continue competing before Chile’s Francisca Crovetto Chadid was awarded the gold medal.
Crovetto Chadid had a two-shot leading going into the final round, only to give those back to Rutter, amid some arguments over whether her ruled miss on the final four should have been considered a clean shot.
But after being sent to a shoot-out, where usually the first to miss goes out, Crovetto Chadid contentiously came out on top.
