Rio Ferdinand has launched an ambitious plan for Manchester United to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe and has declared himself ‘Agent Ferdy’.
Mbappe has asked to leave PSG and wants to join Real Madrid in the January transfer window, according to widespread reports in France and Spain.
Marca report that PSG were open to the idea of Mbappe leaving in July – but made it clear that he would not be sold to Real Madrid – his preferred destination.
PSG would be willing to sell Mbappe to Liverpool, though United legend Ferdinand wants Mbappe to consider joining Erik ten Hag’s side instead.
Ferdinand tweeted a picture of himself alongside Mbappe on Tuesday night, replying to a tweet from England cricketer Sam Billings who posted: ‘@ManUtd just get it done! Agent Rio it has to happen @rioferdy5.’
The former United defender then tweeted ‘WhatsApp me bro @KMbappe’ and posted a video, in which he said: ‘Kylian, we talk a lot.
‘Just come to me. Speak to me. I’ll do this for you man. Just come to me, we’ll do a one-to-one.
‘We spoke last time on [BT Sport show] Between the Lines and you know what, you spoke perfect English. It was great. We can get this done.
‘Get back to playing football. One of the best players in the world, man. We want to see that, that’s what we want to see.’
Ferdinand then tweeted again, this time a GIF of himself greeting Mbappe, with the caption: ‘Done Deal #AgentFerdy.’
Mbappe signed a new three-year contract with French champions PSG in May, which temporarily put an end to his constant links with a move to Madrid.
But according to Le Parisien, Mbappe ‘feels betrayed’ by PSG’s hierarchy as he is unhappy that a number of promises made to persuade him to sign a new contract have not been kept, including new signings in the summer window and his own role in the team.
Mbappe’s relationship with Neymar has also deteriorated in recent months, and it is understood that the French forward was keen for PSG to offload the Brazilian in the summer.
Speaking to The Telegraph in May, Mbappe revealed that Liverpool had made an approach before he signed his new deal with PSG.
‘We talked a little bit, but not too much,’ Mbappe said. ‘I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool.
‘I don’t know why, you will have to ask her! It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.’
