Manchester United chief executive Richard Arnold is set to leave the club if Sir Jim Ratcliffe succeeds in his bid for a minority stake, according to reports.

British billionaire Ratcliffe is set to have his 25 per cent minority investment ratified in the coming weeks.

As part of the deal, Ratcliffe wants to have a large influence on football operations and the Glazers will take care of the commercial side of the club.

The Athletic are now reporting that if Ratcliffe comes in, it is expected that chief executive Arnold will depart as part of a shake-up.

Arnold has been in the role since February 2022 after he took over from Ed Woodward.

The 52-year-old has been at Old Trafford since 2007 and has climbed up the ranks, eventually becoming chief executive.

Arnold held ‘an extraordinary all-staff meeting’ at United last month, focused on how the club dealt with issues surrounding Mason Greenwood and Antony.

It was reported that Arnold was asked if he could promise staff that Greenwood would not return to United’s first team and he replied: ‘There’s no expectation of Mason playing for Manchester United.’

Greenwood is currently on a season-long loan at Spanish side Getafe following the club’s internal investigation.

Other issues at the staff meeting were also discussed including concerns over the club’s debt, which keeps building under the Glazer family.
