Reese Witherspoon’s divorce from husband Jim Toth was reportedly sparked by his ‘midlife crisis’, although they remain ‘best friends’.
The 47-year-old Legally Blonde actress announced that her marriage of almost 12 years was over in a joint statement posted to Instagram, revealing that it was a ‘difficult decision’.
However, a source purported to be a close friend of the couple has claimed that Jim, 52, ‘changed massively’ in recent years and is no longer the man that Reese married.
They added that the pair started the process of uncoupling two years ago when ‘it became clear they were itching for life apart from each other’ despite ‘celebrating the massive success of the Hello Sunshine sale to Candle Media and the hundreds of millions of dollars they personally realised from the deal.’
The source added to The U.S Sun: ‘That money was rocket fuel to them, but it sent them in different directions and pretty quickly after that deal closed, the only real common ground they had was the raising of their son, Tennessee.

‘Even when Reese and Jim couldn’t see eye to eye about anything, they are very dedicated co-parents and that shouldn’t change even if Jim has to change zip codes, which is very likely now.’
Reese and Jim confirmed their divorce on March 24, explaining that they took a ‘great deal of care and consideration’ before moving forward with the split.

It read: ‘We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together.
‘Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter. These matters are never easy and extremely personal.
‘We truly appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time. Reese and Jim.’

The couple shares one child together, Tennessee James Toth, born in 2012.
Reese also has a daughter, Ava, and son, Deacon, with her ex-husband Ryan Phillippe, who she starred with in the 1999 romantic drama Cruel Intentions, before they split in 2006.
