Verstappen Questions Red Bull‘s Performance After Zandvoort Battle

Max Verstappen has voiced his concerns regarding Red Bull Racing’s performance, stating that the battle between his team and Racing Bulls’ Isack Hadjar at the Dutch Grand Prix “shouldn’t be happening”. Both drivers finished on the podium at Zandvoort, but Verstappen highlighted a troubling lack of pace compared to their rivals, particularly the Mclaren team.

    Performance Concerns Highlighted

Verstappen, who ended the race in third place, attributed his podium finish more to circumstances than competitive speed. “Of course, happy to be on the podium, but in terms of speed it wasn’t good,” he lamented. Despite closing in on Lando Norris early in the race, the defending champion struggled to find a competitive edge as Hadjar consistently shadowed him.

    Trouble with Tyre Strategy

Departing from his competitors, Verstappen opted against using the hard tyres during the race, citing that they “really felt terrible” during Friday practice. “Absolutely no mechanical grip,” he explained, leading him to select softer compounds which offered better grip in challenging sections of the track.

    Challenges with the RB21

Red Bull has faced difficulties this season in fully harnessing the potential of its RB21 car, largely due to limited setup options. Verstappen’s commentary on the car’s performance reflects this ongoing struggle. “The car is just not fast enough… this season the car is just not good in the race,” he stated, emphasising issues with grip in crucial corners.

    Racing Bulls’ Impressive Return

While Red Bull navigates its performance troubles, Racing Bulls has recorded its best points haul since 2021. The team tallied 60 points so far this season, a remarkable improvement given their recent history. Yuki Tsunoda’s point-scoring finish at Zandvoort marked a potential turning point for the sister team, although he continued to trail behind Hadjar in terms of speed.

    Title Landscape Shifts

The current season presents a challenge for Verstappen and Red Bull Racing as they face the prospect of their first title-less year since 2020. The dual dynamics of their own performance issues and the rising competitive spirit of Racing Bulls add complexity to their campaign.

    Conclusion

As Verstappen and Red Bull analyze their performance and seek improvements, the spotlight will remain on how they navigate this unexpectedly tumultuous season. With a strong competitor like Racing Bulls rising, the stakes have never been higher.
