‘Record number’ of Met Police officers accused of sexual offences last year
The Metro says Sexual offence accusations against officers in the Metropolitan Police are believed to have hit a record high after claims doubled in the months following Sarah Everard’s murder.
Last year, 251 Met officers or staff faced allegations of sexual assault, sexual harassment and other sexual offences, a Freedom of Information request by The Telegraph has revealed.
They include 190 allegations made internally by police colleagues — up 104% on 2020. Dozens of the accused held senior ranks of sergeant or above and around 87% were men, the figures show.
The shocking statistics follow a series of scandals involving the force, including the kidnap and killing of Ms Everard by former Met officer Wayne Couzens.
